A smart revolution in home fragrancing

Background

Prolitec entered the consumer IoT market in 2016 with their first app: Aera for Home. The Aera device is a luxury home fragrance system that can be controlled with the Aera for Home app, and with buttons on the device.

I started designing in 2015 with the original brief to create the Aera for Home app from the ground up. Following an initial MVP release, I continued to design additional features through several product evolutions.

Goals

Evolve the Aera for Home app in tandem with a global rebranding effort for Aera. Align with key stakeholders to ensure a consistent and high quality brand experience for users.

The design system must be compatible with Prolitec's parallel effort to white-label the app: all colors, typography and imagery are subject to adaptation to other home fragrance brands.

Look and feel direction centered on smart and luxury, with just a hint of whimsey.

Full control & scheduling

The Aera app has full access to the scent diffuser. The app can control a scent’s intensity and remotely turn it on and off. With easy controls for pairing diffusers and setting schedules, the app can automate and fine tune all devices with a tap of a button.

Easy pairing

An elevated unboxing and pairing experience, thoughtfully designed to help users who are starting their very first connected product experience.

“Alexa, tell Aera to adjust the scent level to six.”

The custom Alexa Skill extends control of the device with Alexa voice commands, to activate and adjust intensity of the fragrance diffuser.
