Multi-modal music and podcast browsing
Background
Until 2024, Alexa customers had no means of browsing audio content on their FireTV or Echo Show devices. Customers were required to ask Alexa for specific songs or playlists based on their memory, or while referencing their streaming provider’s mobile app. The Alexa Audio team sought to build a new browsable interface for Music, Podcasts, Books and Radio on FireTV and Show devices.
Goals
Enable music and podcast browsing on TV and Hub devices.
Drive awareness for underutilized features such as linking new streaming provider accounts.
Indicate personalized recommendations and promote podcast content, which most customers don’t know they can access for free on Alexa.
Filter by streaming provider
Jump right into your favorite provider’s personalized recommendations and playlists for a familiar browsing experience optimized for the Alexa endpoint.
Jump back in
Finish that podcast episode, listen to the next chapter in your novel, or replay Wonderwall for the billionth time
Household and personal recommendations
Alexa customizes the content based on presence detection, suggesting its best recommendations for whoever is in the room
What’s playing?
Quickly see what is currently playing in the background on your TV and ingress directly to your favorite streaming app for playback control
Browse and play on every Alexa endpoint
Music & More launched on 7 Echo Show devices in addition to FireTV, enabling a rich browse experience wherever customers use Alexa
